Uddingston residents have been taking the opportunity to share their thoughts on proposals to develop Porterswell Playing Fields into a new sporting and community facility for the village. Many people have already participated in an online survey and have also taken part in the first of two drop-in sessions to learn more about these exciting plans. Both are part of an extensive community engagement exercise by Uddingston Shinty Club (USC). USC aim to develop the playing fields as part of a community asset transfer (CAT), to help increase sporting opportunities for young people in the area.
Lee Thompson, Chair of USC and local grammar school teacher, is pleased with the response to the consultation so far. He said, “We’d like to thank all those who have taken part in the survey so far and the first drop-in event at Bothwell Futures. The Q&A session at the drop-in raised a number of issues and shows the keen interest Uddingston people take in their community. I would urge more local people to follow their lead and make sure their views and ideas are also captured.
“Local engagement will progress throughout August with the continuation of the survey as well as a second drop-in event on Wednesday 26th August, 6:30pm to 8.30pm, in Uddingston Grammar School. We’ll be sharing more information on our proposals for the playing fields and on the CAT process itself. Everyone is welcome and we’re happy to hear alternative views and new ideas, as well as discussing any concerns”.
“We’re particularly eager to hear from residents who live close to the site so we’re also organising a leaflet drop to all houses in the immediate vicinity to help raise awareness and encourage participation.”
Feedback from our drop in at Bothwell Futures is now available on USC’s website and the findings from the drop in on the 26th of August will be available online shortly thereafter. Both will form part of the engagement report which is integral to the CAT application process and will also be publicly available.

USC is a registered charity and has been running since 2019. It has over 100 members and is run by a number of current and former pupils alongside parents and members of the wider Uddingston community.
