We would like to share our exciting and extensive proposal that will help grow the club and benefit the wider local community.
Our proposal is to take over the running of Porterswell playing fields, behind Uddingston Grammar School, as a long-term lease from South Lanarkshire Council (SLC) via a Community Asset Transfer. Community management of the playing fields would allow the club and any potential partners to apply for funding from a variety of sources that are not open to the Council.
Our goal is to enhance and improve the site by developing multi-purpose sports facilities for use by the local community. Our initial thoughts include a shinty pitch, astro pitches, flood lighting and a clubhouse or indoor community facility.
Securing the site is phase one of a three-phase proposal and is likely to take between 18 months to two years. Phase two would be to secure the required funding and phase three would be the physical development of the site.
However, we are very much in the initial stages and are currently planning an extensive community engagement program to ensure local people have the opportunity to give their views on the proposal and share their ideas. The engagement exercise will take place late summer/early autumn and cover the general population of Uddingston - particularly those who live near to the site – as well as local community, sports and voluntary organisations. It will include activities such as surveys, drop-in Q&A sessions and site visits.
Effective community engagement is key to a successful asset transfer application and to securing vital funding to deliver our proposal and will therefore be comprehensive, transparent and inclusive.
